County Council

A Message From the Warden, Mario Zanth

It is an honour for me to assume the role of Warden of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell (the “UCPR”) for the year 2026. This role represents both an immense responsibility and a precious opportunity of guiding our collective future and shaping it with clarity, collaboration, and determination.

Our municipalities are experiencing sustained growth, and it is essential to develop modern and resilient infrastructure, such as the widening of County Road 17, in order to meet the needs of our residents and our businesses. Our roads, bridges, and public facilities must be reliable and safe; they must support the region’s economic vitality.

Another priority of my mandate will be to modernize the UCPR’s policies so that they reflect current realities, while positioning us for the future. This includes improving access to housing, promoting sustainable development, and adopting innovative solutions in service delivery. Modernization is not about change for the sake of change; it is about ensuring that our actions serve our citizens, our businesses, and all our communities fairly and effectively.

Finally, a modernized financial strategy will be essential to achieving our shared goals. In 2026, we will work together to establish a responsible, balanced, and flexible financial framework, allowing every municipality - large or small - to thrive in a sustainable environment.

The UCPR’s success relies on collaboration. We are eight municipalities, but one region. My commitment to respectful dialogue will remain unwavering, and my door will always be open. We will work together for the common good of our greater regional community.

It is with pride and enthusiasm that I accept this mandate alongside the UCPR’s mayors, municipal staff members, and residents. Together, we will build on the solid foundations left by Wardens Riopel, Leroux, and Laviolette. We will pursue a bold, yet responsible, vision. We will ensure that the region of Prescott and Russell continues to be a community where our citizens, our families, and our businesses can grow and thrive.

2026 Warden
Mario Zanth
